Alumni Spotlight: Dr. Christopher Farnsworth Receives International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine 2025 Young Investigator Award

This alumni spotlight shines on Dr. Christopher Farnsworth ‘09 (Biology), a highly accomplished clinical chemist, who has made significant contributions to the field since earning his PhD from the University of Rochester in 2017. He is an Associate Professor of Pathology & Immunology at Washington University School of Medicine.

Dr. Farnsworth received the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IFCC) 2025 Young Investigator Award in Brussels, Belgium, in May 2025. This award is in recognition of scientists and educators with a distinguished career in the area of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine.

He's been recognized with numerous prestigious awards, including the AACC Outstanding Scientific Achievements by a Young Investigator award and the BJC Team Award for Quality Improvement for reducing insufficient specimen rates. Dr. Farnsworth is also a prolific researcher with over 70 peer-reviewed publications and a strong record of external funding. His work focuses on improving patient care through enhanced laboratory testing, and he's shared his expertise through national and international presentations.

Beyond his research, Dr. Farnsworth is a dedicated mentor and played a key role in developing the COVID-19 module for the NEJM Knowledge+ platform, further solidifying his global impact.
