Roberts Wesleyan Field Hockey Shows Rapid Growth in Division II
The Roberts Wesleyan University women's field hockey program has shown remarkable progress since entering NCAA Division II competition. Under head coach Marissa Kocher's leadership, the team has expanded from 12-13 players in its inaugural season to an anticipated roster of over 20 players for fall 2025.
The Redhawks doubled their win total in their second season with six close one-goal losses, including two double-overtime games. Standout goalkeeper Avery Richardson, who ranked second in Division II with 10.07 saves per game last season, has been instrumental to the team's development.
Beyond athletic achievement, the program emphasizes academic excellence, with ten team members receiving recognition from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association for academic performance. Coach Kocher has focused on building a supportive team culture that embraces failure as a path to growth.
"We're ahead of where I hoped we'd be in our five-year plan," said Kocher. "I can't be more thankful for how special and dedicated these players have been."
The program aims to continue its growth while maintaining high play standards, with future goals including potential conference membership.
