Originally from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Landon Chang is an award-winning saxophonist and educator currently based in Rochester, New York. He is pursuing a Doctorate in Saxophone Performance and Literature at the Eastman School of Music under the mentorship of Chien-Kwan Lin. Chang serves as the Assistant Director of the internationally recognized Eastman Saxophone Project (ESP), where he also contributes numerous published arrangements to the ensemble’s repertoire.
At the age of 18, Chang made his solo debut with the Spokane Symphony and was recently featured as a soloist with the U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own.” His playing has been recognized in a variety of competitions, earning awards from the Yamaha Young Performing Artist Competition, Vandoren Emerging Artist Competition, U.S. Army Band Collegiate Solo Competition, MTNA Young Artist Competition, North American Saxophone Alliance Collegiate Solo Competition, and Musicfest Northwest Young Artist
Competition. He has also participated in the prestigious Adolphe Sax International Competition in Dinant, Belgium.
Chang holds undergraduate degrees in Music Education and Saxophone Performance, summa cum laude, from the University of North Texas, and a Master’s degree in Saxophone Performance and Literature from Eastman, where he also earned a Certificate in Arts Leadership. He is a recipient of TMEA’s Collegiate Music Educator Award and the Presser Undergraduate Scholar Award, the highest undergraduate honor awarded by the UNT College of Music.
Currently, Chang is Adjunct Professor of Saxophone at Roberts Wesleyan University. In addition to teaching saxophone, he is also a certified TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) instructor, working with students around the world. His principal teachers include Eric Nestler and Chien-Kwan Lin.
