Dr. Joy Pansari

Assistant Professor

I hope my students leave with a deep sense of hope and enthusiasm, believing that they are equipped and can make a lasting and meaningful impact as educators.

Dr. Pansari

Profile

Dr. Joy Pansari joined the Teacher Education Department at Roberts Wesleyan University drawn by what she describes as the “extra bright light” in Roberts students - their deep care, purpose, and genuine desire to make a lasting impact. She values how both students and faculty at Roberts embody a culture of support, where encouragement and collaboration help future educators grow into confident, capable professionals.

In her teaching, Dr. Pansari integrates Self-Determination Theory (Ryan & Deci, 2000), which emphasizes three key components of intrinsic motivation: relatedness, competence, and autonomy. She models these principles by fostering collegial relationships, designing confidence-building experiences, and offering opportunities for choice and independence. Her students engage in collaborative projects, mock teaching, and data-informed instructional decision-making that help connect theory to practice.

Dr. Pansari also prioritizes helping students develop strong frameworks for evidence-based teaching. She guides them in interpreting data thoughtfully, using feedback to inform instruction, and cultivating habits of reflection that lead to continual professional growth.

Her hope for every student who leaves her classroom is simple but profound: that they carry forward a deep sense of hope, empathy, and curiosity - believing in their ability to nurture both the academic and personal growth of their future students.

A lifelong lover of children’s literature, Dr. Pansari often turns to picture books for their warmth, humor, and lasting impact. One of her favorites is Pete’s a Pizza by William Steig (1998), a story that, like her teaching, celebrates creativity, joy, and connection.
