SCOTT B. CATON is a historian and educator specializing in American cultural, religious, and intellectual history, with additional expertise in general church history, Puritanism, and the political-religious developments of Tudor and Stuart England. He has served as a professor at Roberts Wesleyan University, where he teaches courses on Western civilization, American studies, and the historical intersections of Christianity and culture.

Dr. Caton’s current research focuses on New England Puritanism, the theological contributions of John Henry Newman and Orestes Brownson, and 19th-century evangelical movements. He brings a deeply interdisciplinary approach to the classroom, exploring the rich interplay of faith, politics, and philosophy across eras. His course offerings include Western Civilization II (HST 103), American Studies I (HST 201), Christianity in America (HST 308), and an advanced seminar on G.K. Chesterton (HST 420).

A committed scholar, Dr. Caton has presented on topics such as “Catholicism and the English Reformation” at the Shakespeare as Catholic Conference at St. John Fisher College. His work consistently highlights the enduring relevance of historical theology and belief systems in shaping modern intellectual discourse.
