Profile
Dr. María Pilar Villodre has been a cornerstone of Roberts Wesleyan University's Spanish program since 1999. A native of Spain and expert in contemporary Peninsular literature, her scholarship focuses on twentieth and twenty-first century Spanish narrative, history, and cultural memory—particularly the works of Antonio Muñoz Molina. With a Ph.D. in Spanish Literature from the University at Buffalo and additional degrees from Brigham Young University, the University of Barcelona, and Universidad Autónoma of Madrid, she brings a global academic perspective to the classroom.
Her research has been featured at major international conferences, including the University of Kentucky and the University of Ottawa, and she regularly explores themes of post-Franco identity, exile, and democratic memory in Spanish culture. At Roberts, she teaches a range of advanced Spanish courses, from Hispanic Cinema to Literature and Composition, guiding students toward fluency not only in language, but in cultural understanding and critical thought.
