Jonathan McGarvey

An accomplished IT leader, educator, and strategic thinker, Jonathan McGarvey brings more than two decades of experience leading software engineering, infrastructure, and business systems teams across a wide range of industries.

From leading complex enterprise architecture projects at Thomson Reuters to managing application portfolios and IT operations for more than 150 systems at Frontier Communications, he has consistently delivered measurable impact. Currently serving as an IT Leader at Paychex, he specializes in aligning technology with business strategy, optimizing DevOps teams, and fostering strong cross-functional collaboration.

Since 2002, he has taught at Roberts Wesleyan University, where his classes emphasize practical application through simulations, projects, and real-world problem solving. His course portfolio includes:

• Introduction to Management Information Systems – exploring the role of IT in business strategy and decision-making
• Intermediate Excel: Analysis & Modeling – focusing on financial modeling and large dataset analysis
• Systems Analysis – guiding students through software development methodologies, project management, and user-centered design

In addition to his teaching at Roberts, Jonathan recently served as a lecturer at SUNY Brockport, bringing his industry experience into the classroom to prepare students for the evolving demands of tech-driven workplaces.
