Dr. Annemarie Dowling-Castronovo serves as the Dean of the School of Nursing at Roberts Wesleyan University, where she also holds a faculty appointment as professor of nursing. She leads a team of expert nurse educators and scholars, advancing the School’s mission to deliver exceptional nursing education through curriculum, practice, research, and service, all within a Christ-centered academic environment.
She brings more than 20 years of clinical and academic experience to her role. Board-certified in both gerontological and palliative care, Dr. Dowling-Castronovo has served in a variety of nursing and leadership roles across New York City’s major healthcare systems, including Brooklyn Hospital Center, NYU Downtown Family Care Clinic, Staten Island University Hospital, and Northwell Health.
Before joining Roberts, she served as chair of the nursing department and chief academic nursing officer at Monmouth University’s Marjorie K. Unterberg School of Nursing and Health Studies in New Jersey. Her academic career also includes teaching and leadership roles at NYU, Wagner College, and the College of Staten Island (CUNY).
Her research focuses on best practices for clinical care in aging populations, and she has been widely published in journals such as the American Journal of Nursing and the Journal of Aging Life Care. A Distinguished Educator in Gerontological Nursing, she is a Fellow of the National Academies of Practice and a founding member of the National Consortium of Academic Nurse Educators. She is also an active contributor to the International Learning Collaborative, where she leads a special interest group focused on teaching fundamental care.
