Adjunct Professor of Writing (COMP 1020 – Writing and Research)

Roberts Wesleyan University invites candidates to apply for an adjunct faculty position to teach Writing and Research (COMP 1020) during the Fall 2025 semester. This course is the second in a two-course required writing sequence, designed to strengthen students’ analytical and critical thinking skills through academic writing, argumentation, and research. The Language and Literature program is housed in the School of Arts & Humanities on our park-like campus in Rochester, New York, providing the program with the advantages of a suburban setting within a vibrant metropolitan area.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver instruction aligned with course objectives and university standards.
  • Guide students through the drafting, revision, and research process.
  • Facilitate in-class activities, peer reviews, and discussions.
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback on assignments and maintain accurate records of student progress.
  • Submit final grades and participate in departmental assessment practices.
  • Model and uphold standards of academic integrity and respectful dialogue.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher in English, Rhetoric and Composition, Writing Studies, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching college-level writing, especially first-year composition.
  • Strong understanding of academic writing conventions, rhetorical strategies, and documentation styles (MLA and/or APA).
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to fostering a classroom culture that respects and engages diverse perspectives.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching in a college or university setting.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems (e.g., Moodle).
  • Knowledge of inclusive pedagogy and strategies for supporting a diverse student population.

Salary Range: $746/credit hour
